Lessons Learned

So, we went to visit our neighbors at the hospital this afternoon--who just had a baby girl. We decided that since we were on the other side of town and would run into evening traffic on our way home that we would eat dinner out tonight. Brandon wanted a margarita, so we opted for a Mexican restaurant. The meal was going pretty well, then Jonah decides that he doesn't want his taco unwrapped. And in typical Jonah fashion begins screaming out and actually THROWS THE TACO ONTO THE FLOOR! We were so angry and disappointed. Daddy took him to the restroom for some discipline, which included some spankings and the agreement that he would pay for his taco out of his wallet when we got home. Once he settled down, he did finish the items that were left on his plate (minus the taco of course). We discussed the situation further in the car, and he apologized to his family for making our dinner out less than enjoyable. Then we get home. Daddy asks him to bring his wallet so they can discuss the $2 he owes for his wasted taco. Jonah willingly brings his wallet, and Daddy discovers that his wallet has more dollars in it than he had expected. I tell him that Jonah has been saving to buy a big Lego set. Now Daddy is having a hard time carrying through with this measure. However, Jonah insists that his Daddy take the $2. He says, "Daddy, you can have it. I have lots of dollars. I don't really need it." He then tries to give Mommy and Cannon each a dollar because "he has plenty." Jonah lost his dinner and his money tonight, but he went to sleep a very content little boy. He made a bad choice, but he accepted his consequences and knows that he has been forgiven. Thank you, Jesus, for teaching us to forgive!
